Sony announced the new God of War game, God of War Laufey, at the State of Play event. The game starring Faye instead of Kratos is coming to PS5.
Sony officially introduced the new chapter of the God of War series at the final of its State of Play event. Developed by the Santa Monica studio, God of War Laufey will come directly to the PlayStation 5 platform when it launches.
The game does not have a clear release date yet. However, the 20-minute promotional footage released gives valuable clues about the new world offered by the production.
The Era of Faye Begins Instead of Kratos
Unlike Kratos, whom we controlled in the previous games of the series, in this new production, players will control the character of Faye, aka Laufey. Although the atmosphere of the game maintains the tone of the series in the past, there are major differences in the gameplay.
Kratos’ heavy and violence-oriented fighting mechanics are replaced by a more aerobic and active structure supported by magic. In this adventure, players are accompanied by a giant six-legged cat that can fly and a talking gelatinous cube named Frank. God of War Laufey, makes a significant change in the big-budget game world, which has long been based on father figures, by centering the mother character.
The Successful Rise of the Series Continues
Since its soft relaunch in 2018, God of War has become one of Sony’s most valuable franchises. The series, which is on the same level with productions such as The Last of Us and Horizon, has achieved great success on PS5 with Ragnarök, released in 2022.

The God of War brand is not limited to just games, but is also expanding with a live action series project on Prime Images. Sony also surprisingly introduced a 2D prequel game called Sons of Sparta to players earlier this year.
This new production aims to offer a different perspective in the expanding world of the series. How do you think a new God of War adventure starring the character Faye will bring a breath of fresh air to the series?
