WhatsApp has started testing the new welcome message feature for group chats on iOS. Here are all the details about the new feature that group administrators can use.
WhatsApp is preparing to bring a custom welcome message feature to group chats on the iOS platform to improve user experience. Previously seen in Android beta versions, this new feature allows group administrators to create an automatic welcome message for new members joining the group.
This function, which is being tested with WhatsApp’s iOS 26.31.10.73 version, aims to make new members feel more comfortable in groups. This feature, expected to be quite useful for users, is currently in development and is not yet available for general use or beta users.
Feature Managed Through Group Permissions Menu
WhatsApp plans to integrate this new welcome message feature into the permissions panel it offers for cluster administration. Administrators can easily create or edit the text they want by going to the “Welcome message” option in this menu. Although there is a default text option offered by the system, administrators are free to write customized messages to suit the purpose of their cluster.
These automatically sent notifications appear only on the relevant person’s screen as a notification bubble, without disrupting the flow of the group chat.
Messages Aim to Increase Personal Interaction
This feature added to group chats doesn’t just remain a one-way informational text. New members can directly contact each other within the group by responding to this welcome message. This interactive structure makes it easier for new members to integrate into the group, while contributing to a warmer first impression in person.
This system, where new members can respond directly, lays the groundwork for a more active social atmosphere in groups.
A Single Message Record is Created for Administrators
Even if there is more than one administrator in the group, all administrators have the authority to send the same welcome message. A text determined by a random administrator is saved as a single message shared by all other administrators in the group. This consistency guarantees that all new members joining the group at different times are greeted with the same welcome content.
General Release Expected
The welcome message feature, currently in the testing phase, is not yet available to all iOS users. While WhatsApp has not made an official announcement regarding the date when the feature will be included in the stable version, it is expected to be made available to beta users with TestFlight updates to be released in the coming days. This feature, which is still under development, is seen as a valuable step towards improving connection quality in WhatsApp groups.
