San Francisco-based technology startup Conduit has launched a new data collection process with the goal of developing AI-powered mind-reading technology. The company pays participants between $50 and $55 for sessions where they interact with AI for two hours.

The startup aims to transmit commands directly through wearable devices that do not require surgical intervention. This technology aims to eliminate the erroneous processes created by voice or written commands.

Wearable Technology and Data Collection Process

Participants are required to wear a special four-kilogram helmet covered with electrodes during the data collection process. The only requirement to participate in these sessions is that the user must be able to type without looking at the keyboard.

The company has set a limit of 32 sessions per person. During the sessions, participants are expected to talk to, read to, or write with AI models.

Conduit was founded in 2024 by Oxford graduate Rio Popper and AI researcher Clem von Stengel. Naomi Bashkansky, who left OpenAI, recently joined the group and described the work as quite ambitious.

Mind-Controlled Devices in the Future

Naomi Bashkansky predicts that the neural headband developed by Conduit will reach a level where it can transmit commands with thoughts by 2030. This technology will allow users to control AI tools solely with the power of intention.

Bashkansky believes that this device could become a module in daily workflows. Her future vision includes a structure where users can give commands to AI with their thoughts while planning their daily tasks.

The initiative argues that this technology will transform artificial intelligence from a tool to replace humans into a structure that directly empowers people. If the company achieves its goals, it aims to reach a future valuation of over one trillion dollars.
