MediaTek Helio G99+ Announced with New LPDDR5X Support

MediaTek has announced its new Helio G99+ chipset. The processor, which comes with LPDDR5X support, offers a valuable performance improvement for budget-friendly 4G smartphones.

MediaTek has officially announced the Helio G99+, updating its renowned 4G chipset series for the budget-friendly smartphone market. Based on TSMC’s 6nm manufacturing process, this new processor focuses on a strategic improvement in memory technology rather than making fundamental changes to its technical architecture.

The most notable innovation is the support for LPDDR5X, which replaces the old LPDDR4X standard and increases data transfer speeds to 5500 Mbps. This move allows smartphone manufacturers to use contemporary memory components in a more efficient form, while providing a sustainable increase in overall device performance.

Processor Architecture Remains the Same

The processor retains its hybrid structure consisting of two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz. On the graphics side, the Mali-G57 MC2 unit continues its mission.

This proves that the new chipset is more than just a generational leap; It’s a version of the existing platform adapted to new market rules.

Changes in the Memory Market Shape Production

The main motivation behind the development of the new model is directly linked to the supply and demand stability in the global DRAM market. As memory manufacturers shift their production boundaries to higher-margin products like HBM and DDR5, the supply of older generation LPDDR4X memory has become more difficult and its costs have increased.

With the G99+, MediaTek aims to keep the price tags of entry-level phones stable by offering manufacturers an infrastructure that is more readily available and supports current standards.

Maintaining core features such as UFS 2.2 storage support and 108 MP camera capabilities allows manufacturers to switch to the new processor without changing their existing designs.

4G Technology Meets Current Needs

Despite the widespread adoption of 5G networks, 4G technology still holds a significant place in developing markets. MediaTek’s integration of a Cat-13 Dual VoLTE-enabled modem continues to provide a seamless connectivity experience in budget-friendly smartphones.

This step clearly demonstrates why hardware modernization is necessary, especially for end-users seeking affordable devices. With the Helio G99+, MediaTek both simplifies manufacturers’ production processes and offers consumers longer-lasting and more stable devices.
