WhatsApp has added a media preview feature to the chat list for iOS users. Now you can see photos, images, and stickers without opening the chat.
WhatsApp has started rolling out media previews on the chat list for iOS users. With version 26.34.74, the popular messaging app now allows users to see incoming photos, videos, or stickers as a small thumbnail before they enter the chat.
With this new update, a small thumbnail of the content will now appear next to the words ‘Photo’, ‘Video’, or ‘Sticker’ in the chat list. Thus, users will be able to quickly identify the content of incoming messages without opening the chats or marking notifications as read.
Media Previews Improve User Experience
Previously, WhatsApp only showed a text preview or a simple media tag for the last message in the chat list. When a user sent you a photo, you only saw the word ‘Photo’ on the list screen. This made it difficult to understand what each message contained across multiple chat streams. Users often had to open the chat to see the content, which caused the notification to be marked as ‘read’.
iOS Update Brings New Capabilities
WhatsApp had previously tested a similar feature for Android beta users. Now, with version 26.34.74 released on the App Store, this functionality is being included in the iOS ecosystem. With this update, users will be able to access media previews without disrupting the overall order of the chat list. Small photos have been optimized to appear right next to the existing media tag.
Stickers Also Get Preview Support
The system is not limited to photos and images only. Thanks to the new feature, stickers are also shown in the chat list with a small preview. This innovation, especially for users who share stickers frequently, allows them to instantly understand the content of the incoming image. This step by WhatsApp aims to make the interface more functional.
Feature is Being Rolled Out Gradually
Currently, this feature is not available to all users at once. WhatsApp is rolling out the media preview feature in stages. If you don’t see previews even after updating your app to the latest version, it may take a few weeks for the feature to be activated on your account. The company has not yet made an official announcement about the full release date of the feature.
Users Have Started Experiencing the Feature
This small but functional update provides great convenience, especially for users who want to manage notifications. Now you no longer need to open the chat to see if an important image has arrived. This improvement by WhatsApp is seen as part of its strategy to improve the overall user experience.
