Mario Kart Wii is being ported to the PC platform using the static recompilation technique. Details of Mario Kart Wiicompiled, whose beta version will be released in August, are here.
Nintendo’s iconic racing game Mario Kart Wii is being moved to the PC platform thanks to a new project carried out by the developers. This work, called Mario Kart Wiicompiled, stands out as a static recompilation project that aims to run the game locally on modern computers.
Retro Rewind developer patchzy shared the first details of the project with the announcement he made on social media. The developer stated that the PC version of the game will enter the beta phase in August and will come with online gaming support.
A First for Wii Games
Mario Kart Wiicompiled is the first example of a statically recompiled Nintendo Wii game. Unlike emulators, this method involves converting the game code to run directly on modern hardware.
The project comes with the Retro Rewind boost, which includes over 200 tracks. This technological step may pave the way for other Wii games to be ported to PC or different architectures in a similar way in the future.
This version, developed specifically for the PC platform, opens the door to improvements such as high-resolution imaging. Additionally, thanks to the moddable structure of the game, third-party textures, models and sound packages are expected to be included in the system.
Mario Kart Wii is known as the second best-selling Wii game of all time. This recompilation project will give the game a new life on modern systems.
