WhatsApp is developing a new feature that makes backup management easier for Android users. Managing Google Drive storage is now much more practical.
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow Android users to manage chat backups so that they can use Google Drive storage space more efficiently. This innovation, which is in the development stage, aims to make it easier for users to check their past backup documents and free up space by clearing unnecessary data.
Google also supported this process and added a special backup management section to the Android system settings. Thanks to the integration in question, users will be able to manage their backup data without entering the WhatsApp application. This development offers a critical solution, especially for users who want to free up space in cloud storage.
Google Drive Storage Space Is Used More Efficiently
The backup options offered by WhatsApp on the Android platform enable users to keep their chat history, media files and documents safe. However, the fact that this data takes up space on Google Drive sometimes causes storage limits to be exceeded. With the newly developed feature, users will increase storage efficiency by gaining greater visibility over backup documents.
Users can now simply list old backup documents and delete unnecessary ones.
WhatsApp Prepares Its Own Cloud Storage Analysis
The company is not only limited to Google Drive, but is also testing its own first-party encrypted cloud backup system. When this system comes into effect, users will be able to store their backups on WhatsApp servers. While the first 2 GB of space is planned to be free, affordable monthly plans are expected to be offered for information up to 50 GB. These backups will be end-to-end encrypted by default and protected with passkeys or 64-digit encryption keys.
Increasing System Level Integrations
The Play Services v26.23 update published by Google ensures that WhatsApp backups are directly compatible with Android system settings. Thanks to this change, backup management has become a general operating system function rather than just an in-application process. The new in-application management section that WhatsApp is working on will be in direct contact with these system-level settings.
System settings and in-app administration panel will make managing backup data more practical than ever.
New Features Will Be Available Soon
There is no official statement about when these features, which are currently in the testing phase and are not available to beta users, will be made available to the general public. However, the fact that Google has completed the integration at the system level indicates that WhatsApp will release its own in-app updates very soon. We will continue to inform users by following the developments closely.
