Sony has officially begun distributing the highly anticipated Android 17 update. Initially released for the Xperia 1 VIII model in the European market, this new software package, version 73.1.A.2.61, offers a download size of approximately 1.2 GB. Users can manually check if the Android 17 update is available on their device by checking the Software Update section in their device’s Settings menu. Sony has officially started distributing the Android 17 update, starting with the Xperia 1 VIII model. The new update package brings valuable innovations such as desktop mode and improved camera tools. Initially, the update is offered as a 1.2 GB file for users in Europe. Sony has confirmed that a total of five different Xperia models will receive this new operating system version. The most striking feature is the new desktop mode, which can transform smartphones into workstations.
- Personalization options have also been greatly improved with this update. New designs and clock formats added to the “Wallpapers and Style” menu help users personalize their phones. The ability to adjust the shape and size of icons increases the aesthetic variety in the interface.
- The screen recording tool now offers the option to record a single application or the entire screen, while simultaneously capturing device sound and microphone sound.

Sony has also announced a very special new feature for owners of its flagship model, the Xperia 1 VIII. The AI-powered Camera Assistant, integrated into photo mode, allows users to quickly access their own color tones and settings by saving them.
This feature, which allows saving a total of three different custom looks, makes it possible to apply professional shooting styles with a single touch. Users can quickly switch between these camera profiles with custom names they define.
List of Devices to Receive the Update
Sony has also shared the list of devices that will receive the Android 17 update. Accordingly, the Xperia 1 VIII, Xperia 1 VII, and Xperia 1 VI models from the current model series will receive the update. In addition, the Xperia 10 VIII and Xperia 10 VII models from the Xperia 10 series will also get the new operating system. The company stated that the rollout in other regions will be completed gradually and asked users to be patient.
