Apple’s vice president of hardware engineering, Kate Bergeron, clarified the attractive features of the iPhone Duo model, which will be released on October 16th with a starting price of 230,000 TL. The special “nano-texture” screen coating on the device’s 7.6-inch foldable inner screen, which minimizes reflections, can be quickly removed and replaced by users.

With this breakthrough, Apple aims to extend the screen life and minimize wear and tear issues that may occur in long-term use. This innovative approach, creating excitement in the technology world, is opening a new era in the maintenance processes of foldable screen smartphones.

  • The nano-texture coating on the iPhone Duo model can be replaced manually by the user.
  • This layer, which helps to hide the fold line on the screen, plays a critical role in the use of Apple Pencil.
  • AppleCare+ owners in the US will pay $19 for this layer replacement.

Screen Coating Improves User Experience

Apple officials state that they designed this special coating to prevent surface wear, which is frequently encountered in foldable screen technologies. The nano-texture structure not only prevents reflection but also significantly reduces the visibility of physical marks in the fold area of the screen.

The ability for users to replace this layer themselves offers a great advantage, especially for professionals who frequently use Apple Pencil on the screen. Micro-scratches or surface wear that may occur over time from stylus use can now be repaired by simply renewing the coating, without the need to replace the entire screen.

Maintenance and Cost Processes Being Determined

Initial information about the maintenance costs of the new generation device has begun to be shared. Apple has set the price for nano-texture layer replacement at $19 in the US market under the AppleCare+ subscription.

However, there is no official information yet regarding replacement costs in the Turkish market or service prices outside of AppleCare+. While it is emphasized that the company has subjected this layer to rigorous testing processes to make it long-lasting, the fact that the replacement is designed with a user-friendly interface is seen as a factor that will directly increase the lifespan of the device.

Technological Sustainability Takes Center Stage

With the iPhone Duo, the concept of hardware sustainability in foldable screen devices is taken to a different dimension. Previously, damage to a single module of the screen led to costly processes such as replacing the entire panel.

Now, Apple is allowing users to modify their own devices with a modular approach. This strategy both reduces the burden of service and offers users a more flexible experience. The device, which will be available on shelves with a premium price tag of 230,000 TL, is expected to retain its investment value in the long term thanks to this feature.
