Intel 14A Production Pushed Back: Mass Production to Start in 2028

Intel has updated the schedule for 14A production technology. It is aimed to start high-volume production in the new generation 14A process in 2028.

Intel announced that it has updated the planned schedule for 14A production technology. The company aims to transition to high-volume production in the new generation production process in 2028.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan expressed his belief that 14A technology will offer a competitive structure in terms of power, density, cost and timing. The company management states that this development is an important step for both internal companies and external customers.

Accelerating Calendar in Production Processes

Intel showed strong performance and revenue growth in the last fiscal quarter. The company announced that it exceeded the targeted production volumes in Intel 7, Intel 3 and Intel 18A processes.

The increase in production efficiency was achieved thanks to the optimization of cycle times and expansion of wafer stocks. In particular, the increase in output in the 18A process directly supports the production processes of new generation processors such as Panther Lake and Wildcat Lake.

While the company states that it has started risk production in the 18A-P process, it emphasizes that 14A technology surpasses 18A in terms of both defect density and transistor performance. PDK version 0.5 is now available for 14A, and PDK version 0.9 is planned to be released in October.

Intel continues to expand and validate its IP portfolio for 14A technology. This technology is designed to be used by a wide range of customers.

New Goals for 14A Technology

Intel announced that it has moved risk production for 14A technology to the second half of 2027. The high-volume production target, which was previously planned for 2029, was moved to 2028.

CEO Lip-Bu Tan states that customer interest in 14A technology has increased and that this process will increase the company’s competitiveness. Intel aims to demonstrate the performance potential by using this technology in its own internal products.

So far, negotiations are being held with many different customers for 14A technology. Although large-scale business partnerships have not yet been officially announced, the chips developed within Intel Foundry are aimed to meet industry expectations.
