Disruptions in the development process of the Star Wars: Eclipse project and complaints that NetEase may sell Quantic Dream are on the agenda.
New claims have come to the fore about the future of the Star Wars: Eclipse project developed by Quantic Dream. According to the information shared in the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast program, the development process of the game is going through a very difficult period.
It is claimed that NetEase, the owner of the French game studio Quantic Dream, plans to dispose of the studio. This situation further increases the uncertainty surrounding the long-awaited Star Wars project.
Disruptions During the Development Process
Star Wars: Eclipse was first announced at The Game Awards event in 2021. However, since then, it has been frequently stated that the project has had a very long development journey.
In previous reports, it was stated that the game was not expected to be released before 2027 or 2028. Newly emerging arguments show that even 2028 may be an optimistic assumption.
NetEase acquired Quantic Dream in early 2023 for approximately 100 million Euros. However, over time, NetEase has decided to withdraw from various companies it has invested in, strengthening the question marks about the future of the studio.
Financial Difficulties and Canceled Projects
The MOBA game called Spellcasters Chronicles, which the studio developed to finance the Star Wars: Eclipse project, also failed to achieve the expected success. This 3v3 format game, which was announced in October 2025, stopped its activities in a short time after the early access process.
This development is interpreted as Quantic Dream’s efforts to raise financial resources have been disrupted. Star Wars: Eclipse is the first action-adventure game developed by the studio and aims to offer a branching story set in different parts of the galaxy.
It is stated that there is currently a significant disappointment within the studio and the development process is progressing quite slowly. Rumors that NetEase may sell the studio by the end of the year or in 2027 have wide repercussions in the gaming world.
Do you think the Star Wars: Eclipse project will be able to overcome these difficulties and be released?
