Microsoft has responded to the rumors surrounding GTA 6 pre-orders. Xbox is quite happy with the pre-order performance on its platform.
GTA 6 pre-orders have reigned the competition between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the gaming world. Recent claims suggested that there was significant unrest within Xbox and that orders were concentrated on the PlayStation 5.
Microsoft, however, directly countered these assessments, breaking its silence. The company management emphasized that the game has already broken records on their platform and that they are happy with the results.
Allegations and Microsoft’s Response
According to information circulating in the gaming industry, the vast majority of pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 were for PlayStation 5. It was claimed that this created unrest within Xbox management and weakened the platform’s market position.
Xbox Strategy Director Matthew Ball rejected these arguments, stating that the company was quite happy with the pre-order results. Ball stated that new records are already being broken on the Xbox platform and that they expect this momentum to continue in the fall.
According to Microsoft’s internal analysis, the share of total pre-orders received by Xbox is perfectly in line with the brand’s current position in the console market. This refutes rumors that sales are lower than expected compared to the brand’s overall market share.
It is a known fact that the PlayStation 5 has a larger installed user base in the current generation. Therefore, expecting an equal number of pre-orders for the two consoles is not a realistic expectation, and the available information supports this.
Although Microsoft did not share the exact number of pre-orders placed for the Xbox Series X|S, it confirms that the performance is within expectations. The company clearly demonstrates that it maintains its current market strength and is pleased with the interest from gamers.
Official Data and Future Expectations
So far, neither Sony nor Microsoft has publicly shared the exact pre-order numbers for each platform. Rockstar Games has also not released any official data on sales distribution, and therefore it is not possible to determine the exact percentages at this stage.
The special mentions used for PlayStation 5 on Rockstar Games’ official website increase visibility in marketing efforts. This continues to fuel discussions among players about platform preferences and keep the competition between brands alive.
The pre-order process, which started on June 25, 2026, is offered to players with Standard and Ultimate Edition options. Users who pre-order also have the chance to access special additional content such as the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games’ current official announcements do not include any information about a PC version.
With the game’s release approximately two months away, the competition between console manufacturers is expected to intensify further. How do you think GTA 6 will affect console sales and platform preferences?
