Sony is taking a new step for PlayStation 5 users. With the PS5 live TV feature, console owners can now access free and ad-supported content.

Seven years after ending its paid PlayStation Vue service, the company is returning to the television broadcasting field with this new move. Users will now have access to a wide range of content through their consoles.

Over 100 Free Channels

This newly launched service includes over 100 live channels. Broadcasts include Sony Pictures Television content, news channels such as NBC and Fox News.

Various sports channels are offered for sports fans, while movie lovers have options such as MovieSphere and FilmRise Free Movies. Additionally, popular series like The Walking Dead and anime content via Crunchyroll are also offered to viewers.

The platform is not limited to series and movies. Gaming and esports content, creative entertainment programs, and documentaries also find their place in the streaming service.

Podcasts and exclusive programs are also a part of the service. In particular, exclusive content such as eCLUTCH stands out among the different types of programs offered by the platform.

The company states that new content will continue to be added over time. This expansion strategy aims to increase the variety offered by the platform.

Accessibility and Future Plans

Accessing the service is done through a very easy interface. Users simply need to go to the Media tab on the main page and then click on the Live TV on PS5 icon.

Sony has confirmed that this service will not be limited to PlayStation 5 only. It has been announced that Bravia television models will also receive this service later in the year.

Regional expansion of the service is also planned. Initially including Canada, this expansion process will continue with other regions.

Although Sony was late to enter the ad-supported free streaming space, this step fills a valuable gap. It follows in the footsteps of successful platforms such as Roku Channel, Tubi, and Sling Freestream.

As you may recall, Sony shut down its subscription-based PlayStation Vue service in 2019. Vue, which competed with rivals like YouTube TV and Sling at that time, is now being replaced by a different model.
