Phone 1, which was released in July 2022, completed its official updates after a period of approximately four years. Software baseline and end of updates

With this latest update, Nothing Phone 1 has successfully completed the three-year Android version updates and four-year security patch reinforcement it promised to its users. In a statement on the community forums, the company confirmed that the device has received the last major Android update with Android 15.

The fact that some users have found different ways to install Android 16 on their devices does not cause the official support process to change. This latest package, released through official channels, includes the July 2026 security patch, as well as various bug fixes and general improvements that increase system stability.

The device’s software history and future

Nothing Phone 1 has been the basic model that forms the identity of the brand with its transparent design approach and unique interface since the day it was released. The discontinuation of software support means that the device will no longer officially receive new Android versions or regular security patches.

While users will be able to continue using the device’s features and current stability packs, new software improvements will no longer be released for this model. With this step, Nothing has ended the software life of its first smartphone as planned.

Do you think a four-year software upgrade period is sufficient for today’s smartphones, or should brands keep this period longer?
