Jeff Dean, the architect of Google’s AI strategy, announced that he will be leaving the company to establish a new AGI-focused venture. At the same time, it was announced that DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis will also be leaving his current position and moving to a new role within Alphabet.

AI Strategy Changing at DeepMind and Google

In a blog post published by Google, it was stated that Demis Hassabis will leave his position as DeepMind CEO and become DeepMind President and Alphabet’s Chief Scientist. Immediately following this development, it was announced that Jeff Dean and Sanjay Ghemawat, both 27-year Google veterans, had left to establish a new public benefit company called Discovery Loop.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai stated that Google would be a founding member and cloud partner of Discovery Loop. Jeff Dean noted that Google’s existing infrastructure had different needs than the new systems they wanted to build.

New $1.5 Billion Investment for Gemini Models

Google is preparing to take new steps to maintain its competitiveness in artificial intelligence models. The company is reportedly in talks with San Francisco-based Mechanize for a potential $1.5 billion deal to improve the coding capabilities of its Gemini models.
