The fourth developer beta of iOS 27, published by Apple, revealed new code sequences that indicate multiple battery usage within the operating system. This discovery reignited discussions in the technology world that it could be a preparation for the long-awaited foldable iPhone model.

Words in the code such as “The batteries in this iPhone are working as expected” and “The health of the batteries in this iPhone has decreased significantly” show that the system can manage more than one power source. Additionally, there is also a warning in the system that the term “one of the batteries” is not an original Apple component.

What Does Multiple Battery Usage Mean?

While some experts think that these codes directly point to a foldable iPhone model, others argue that there may be an easier explanation. In particular, the use of external MagSafe batteries can essentially provide a second battery experience in current iPhone models, and this may explain the plural terms in the codes.

However, when it comes to a foldable device design, using dual batteries seems to be a technically very logical option. In a body structure consisting of two sections, power cells must be placed on both sides to ensure balance stability and provide adequate battery life.

Placing a single battery cell on only one side of the device may result in both shifting the load center and leaving the overall capacity finite. The dual battery system ensures the stability of the device and also increases the overall power efficiency.

Battery Technologies from Past to Present

Previous prosecution suggested that two other 3D stacked cells would be used to reach a capacity of around 5,000mAh in the foldable iPhone model. This approach also seems compatible with Apple’s power management strategies in hardware design.

Apple is actually no stranger to multi-battery systems, and this technology has been used before. During the iPhone X disassembly processes carried out in 2017, it was clearly seen that the device was equipped with two different battery cells in a single body.

For now, it remains unclear whether these terms in the iOS 27 codes represent a foldable device or another feature. Time will tell what path Apple will follow on the hardware side with this new software infrastructure.
