As a result of the volatility in the fuel market in Turkey, the price of diesel fuel per liter has exceeded the symbolic limit of 100 TL. Following the approximately 6.5 TL increase implemented at midnight on September 15th, it was decided to add another 4.60 TL to diesel fuel prices with a new update in the markets.

With this latest increase, the pump price of diesel fuel in major cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir has risen above the 100 TL mark. While citizens are experiencing difficult times due to rising transportation and logistics costs, officials emphasize that fluctuations in global energy markets play a decisive role in these price increases.

Diesel Prices Exceed One Hundred Lira in Major Cities

Following the latest increases, diesel prices have reached different levels in different regions of Turkey. In Istanbul’s European side, the price of diesel per liter was set at 100.31 TL, while in the Anatolian side, this figure remained fixed at 100.19 TL. In the capital Ankara, the price of diesel reached 101.43 TL, while in Izmir it was offered for sale at around 101.70 TL. Drivers are concerned about the impact of these rapid changes reflected in fuel station prices on their daily lives.

Minister Şimşek Made Statements Regarding the Implemented Policies

In a program he attended, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made assessments on the subject, comparing fuel prices in Turkey with those in European countries.

Minister Şimşek stated that in many European countries, the price of 1 liter of diesel fuel is not below 150 TL in Turkish Lira, and that thanks to the tax waivers implemented by Turkey, they were able to keep prices around 100 TL. Emphasizing that the government is fulfilling its responsibilities despite the current severe global conditions, Şimşek also gave valuable clues about future economic planning.

The Sliding Scale System Will Not Continue Next Year

Another important point highlighted by Minister Şimşek was the future of the sliding scale system. Announcing that the sliding scale system will not continue in the government’s budget planning for next year, Şimşek expressed his hope for an end to the war. This statement was interpreted as a sign that tax regulations on fuel may take a different course in the coming period.
