OpenAI is considering taking legal action on the grounds that it is not getting the results it expects from its partnership with Apple.
The two-year partnership between Apple and OpenAI is moving to a new dimension as tensions between the parties increase. It is stated that the OpenAI side is evaluating legal options against Apple on the grounds that it cannot provide the expected benefits.
According to sources familiar with the matter, OpenAI is actively working with an outside law firm, although it wants to resolve the issue without resorting to legal action. Among the options considered in this process is notifying Apple of contract violation instead of filing a lawsuit directly.
Expectations were not met in the partnership
In 2024, Apple integrated ChatGPT into its devices by integrating “Apple Intelligence” technology into Siri and other applications. Thanks to this collaboration, users can access ChatGPT results via Siri and create subscriptions directly from the iOS settings menu.
OpenAI predicted that this agreement would increase ChatGPT subscriptions and provide deeper integration with Apple applications. However, it is stated that the relationship between the parties has deteriorated and attempts at renegotiation have failed.

Third Party Models and Future Plans
Reports that Apple will offer its users the ability to choose third-party artificial intelligence models pose the risk of OpenAI losing its unique position within the software. It is known that the company has carried out integration tests with Anthropic’s Claude and Google Gemini models.

Google Gemini is expected to power Siri, which will be updated this year. Apple is expected to share more details about its artificial intelligence plans at its annual software developer conference in June. It is stated that Apple’s turning to other artificial intelligence providers was not the main reason for OpenAI’s legal preparations, because the partnership did not initially include a specific definition of rights.
Apple has not yet made a statement on the issue. How do you think this tension between OpenAI and Apple will affect the user experience?
