Comprehensive Performance Update to Windows 11

Microsoft released the KB5089573 update for Windows 11, which includes shared audio support and performance improvements. Here are all the details.

Microsoft has released a new optional update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. This update, code KB5089573, offers system-wide performance increases and various new features.

Users can download the update manually via the Settings menu or through the Microsoft Update Catalog. All of these innovations will be made generally available with the Patch Tuesday update in June 2026.

New features and performance improvements

The Shared Audio feature, one of the most notable innovations of the update, allows two people to listen to the sound coming from the same computer through two different headphones. This feature, which uses Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast technology, can be easily activated via the Quick Settings menu.

On the Task Manager side, valuable improvements have been made in NPU tracking. Users can now add new columns such as NPU usage, NPU engine, and memory usage to the Processes, Users, and Details pages.

Multi-application support on the camera side allows multiple applications to access the camera stream at the same time. Additionally, the option to specify a special name for the user folder during the Windows application has been added to the system.

System stability and other improvements

On the general performance side, the opening speeds of basic components such as the Start menu, Search and Process Center have been increased. On the Windows Hello side, biometric service improvements were made and the device’s performance when exiting standby mode was optimized.

The Windows Search box can now find and prioritize documents that even contain two characters. While the stability of displays connected via USB4 ports and hubs has been increased, recovery measures have been introduced for the USB3 stack against unexpected hardware failures.

It became possible to specify the size in gigabytes when creating a Dev Drive in the storage settings. Additionally, the Times New Roman font family has been updated, increasing the visual consistency of characters in the Greek and Cyrillic alphabets.

In terms of battery life, power consumption has been optimized with improvements made to the sensor center and HID stack. On the Microsoft Store side, background improvements were made in download performance and bandwidth usage.

What do you think about these new features and performance improvements coming to Windows 11?
