Anthropic has started negotiations with British chip startup Fractile to diversify its hardware supply. Here are the details.
Anthropic, the developer of the Claude model, has initiated the first negotiations for a new collaboration with London-based chip startup Fractile. According to information based on sources close to the subject, the company is considering purchasing inference accelerators produced by Fractile.
This potential deal comes as part of Anthropic’s strategy to diversify its hardware supply chain. The company continues to support its server infrastructure with chips produced by Nvidia, Google and Amazon.
2027 target for Fractile chips
The special chip architecture developed by Fractile draws attention with its SRAM-based structure, which reduces the need for high-cost memory. However, it is necessary to wait until 2027 for this technology to be ready for commercial use.
This timeline falls outside of Anthropic’s short-term acquisition plans. The date in question coincides with a similar period with the company’s TPU partnership with Google and Broadcom.
Strategic sourcing diversity
If Anthropic signs an agreement with Fractile, this venture will be the company’s fourth different chip supplier.

The company aims to meet the high processing power required to run artificial intelligence models from different sources.
How do you evaluate these developments in the hardware world and Anthropic’s future infrastructure choices?
