Chinese Memory Era Begins in iPhone 18

Chinese Memory Era Begins in iPhone 18

Apple is preparing to use Chinese CXMT memories in the iPhone 18 series. Here are the memory differences and details between Pro and standard models.

The memory crisis, which has been affecting the technology sector for the last year, pushes Apple to look for new and alternative supply methods. In this context, the company plans to supply DRAM from the Chinese company CXMT, which is blacklisted by the USA.

Analysts predict that this move will strengthen Apple’s hand in the supply chain. However, it remains a matter of curiosity whether this collaboration will cover all iPhone 18 models.

Chinese memory restriction on iPhone 18 series

According to new information, iPhone 18There are some technical limitations on the use of CXMT memories in the series. Especially iPhone 18 ProThe multi-module structure at the plate level of the Apple A20 Pro chipset, which will be included in the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro Max models, does not allow the integration of these memories for now.

Apple continues to work with Samsung and SK hynix due to its long-standing cooperation. Since the memories that offer the highest compatibility with the A20 Pro chipset belong to these two manufacturers, Apple is expected to prioritize its partnership with Samsung with its experience in advanced packaging technologies.

On the other hand, the Apple A20 chipset, which has a standard module structure, allows the use of CXMT memories. This greatly strengthens the possibility that the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models will be released with CXMT memories.

Future plans and testing processes

Apple has enough time to complete all necessary testing and certification processes until the devices in question are released into the market. These models, which are expected to meet users early next year, play a critical role in strengthening the Chinese manufacturer’s place in the technology world.

If the Chinese manufacturer adapts the Pro series chipsets in the coming years, the use of CXMT memories in upper segment iPhone models may be on the agenda. What do you think about Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain?
