Chinese smartphone manufacturers are developing new batteries with steel casings and stacked cell technology for a capacity of 10,000 mAh.
A critical step is being taken towards increasing power capacity in the smartphone market. According to information shared by the reliable technology leak source Digital Chat Station, a leading Chinese smartphone manufacturer has begun testing steel-case batteries combined with stacked cell technology.
This new approach, which takes Apple’s aluminum outer casing strategy launched in the iPhone 16 Pro models a step further, aims to significantly increase the battery capacity of Android devices. Replacing classic coil systems, this new generation design aims to maximize power density while maintaining the physical dimensions of devices.
Metal-Case Batteries Increase Structural Durability
Battery technology in smartphones is one of the most valuable components directly affecting device performance. Apple, with the iPhone 16 Pro, increased durability and made room for larger capacities by using a metal casing to protect the battery. Chinese manufacturers in the field are planning to achieve a more rigid structure by combining this technology with steel materials. Thanks to this, batteries are able to store more power while taking up less space.
The stacked cell structure, which replaces traditional “jelly-roll” type batteries, allows the cells to be more tightly bound together. This procedure minimizes dead space inside the battery, increasing the total power capacity. This technology provides a great advantage for manufacturers, especially considering the large areas allocated to cameras in flagship models.
High-Capacity Batteries Set New Standards
The silicon-carbon anode technology already used by Chinese manufacturers has already enabled exceeding 7,000 mAh levels. With the newly tested steel-cased designs and stacking techniques, batteries in the 9,000 mAh to 10,000 mAh range are expected to be seen in flagship phones in the near future. This is considered a development that will completely change user expectations, especially regarding battery life.
Competitors Investing in New Technologies
Other technology giants, like Samsung, are not lagging behind in this race. Samsung, focusing on increased capacity with the Galaxy S27 series, is rumored to offer a battery of around 5,700 mAh in its Ultra model. The company aims to optimize battery life by integrating the silicon-carbon technology it uses in its foldable models into its classic flagship models. Metal-protected batteries and intelligent internal design arrangements are opening a new era in the power efficiency of smartphones.
