The popular messaging application WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will make it easier for users to contact people who do not have an account. Thanks to the new “guest calls” feature, which is under development, people who do not have a WhatsApp account will be able to join voice or video calls directly through a private web connection without needing to install the application or create an account. This innovation aims to make the user experience more accessible by using the WhatsApp Web infrastructure. Throughout the process, the platform, which does not compromise on security, makes it mandatory for the host user to approve each guest before accepting them into the conversation.

Guest Calls Take Place Through Internet Browser

WhatsApp is now expanding its previously introduced guest chat feature to voice and video calls. Now, users can initiate communication without needing to install any application by sending a private link they create via WhatsApp Web to the other party. The person who clicks on the link will be directed directly to the conversation interface through their browser. This system offers an extremely practical solution, especially for rapid and intermittent communication needs.

End-to-End Encryption Technology Ensures Security

The new feature maintains the high security standards used in existing WhatsApp calls. When a guest user joins a call, a unique identifier is generated for the browser session. This identifier forms the basis of a private encryption key that ensures the call is protected from beginning to end. Therefore, the fact that the person joining the call does not have a WhatsApp account does not change the end-to-end encryption principle, and third parties are prevented from accessing the call content.

Host Has Full Control Over the Call

To ensure security in guest calls, the host user is given extensive permissions. When someone wants to join a call via contact, the host must manually approve this request. This process is absolutely mandatory; This prevents unauthorized individuals from joining the conversation. Additionally, the host retains the right to remove unwanted individuals from the broadcast or end the entire conversation during the call.

Guest Calls and Chats Are Different

While guest chats and calls share similar technologies, they differ in their operation. Guest chats, thanks to their asynchronous nature, allow for long-term communication, while guest calls offer an instant connection experience. The relationship ends as soon as the call concludes. This is the most efficient method for situations requiring instant information exchange.

The Feature is Still Under Development

Currently, WhatsApp is keeping this feature only in the development phase and has not yet made it available to the general user base. No one, including beta users, can actively test this feature. WhatsApp officials have not shared an official timeline for when the feature will arrive in the stable version, but it is expected that this functionality will be made available to all users with future updates.
