Battlefield 6 update 1.4.2.0 added the Top Gun collaboration, the Wake Island map, and new jets to the game. Details of the free trial week are in our news.
Battlefield 6 kicks off the most exciting phase of Season 4 with its massive update, #1.4.2.0, available to players starting today. Published by Electronic Arts and DICE, this new version brings extensive Top Gun collaboration developed in partnership with Paramount Games Studio, the fan-favorite Wake Island map, and new features in the massive Tsuru Reef area.
Additionally, the game offers a free trial week on all platforms from August 18-25, providing a unique opportunity for new players joining the series. This update aims to take the Battlefield experience to the next level with new jets and game modes.
A New Era Begins with Top Gun Collaboration
The most striking element of the update is the Top Gun-themed activity resulting from the partnership with Paramount Games Studio.
Described as the most comprehensive seasonal event in the Battlefield series to date, this content brings three valuable characters from the 2022 movie to the battlefield. Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd, and Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates appears in the game with models voiced by the original voice actors Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman, and Charles Parnell.
During the event, players will have access to a new unit inspired by the film, the CJTF Helix, as well as many Top Gun-themed cosmetic items and character costumes. To earn these rewards, players need to collect Ace Medals, a special currency valid throughout the event.
Parallel to the event schedule, Battlefield 6 is launching a free trial on all platforms between August 18-25. During this period, players can play six different game modes on Tsuru Reef, Wake Island, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base maps without paying anything.
Battlefield 6 will be available to try completely free of charge on all platforms between August 18-25.
Advanced Aircraft and Strategic Modes Added
For players who enjoy air combat, the 1.4.2.0 update offers two new two-seater fighter jets. The F/A-81F Super Specter is designed for establishing air superiority and making precision strikes, allowing the pilot and co-pilot to conduct coordinated attacks.
On the other hand, the F-74A Seacat, with its variable geometry wing structure, uniquely blends speed and maneuverability, providing pilots with a tactical advantage.
These new aircraft play a central role in Top Gun: Carrier Strike, a modern interpretation of the classic Carrier Assault mode.
In this mode, the cooperation of infantry, naval, and air units is of great importance. This mode, where groups must destroy enemy ships while protecting their own aircraft carriers, offers a full-scale war atmosphere. Additionally, the Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep mode, added as part of REDSEC, promises high-tempo dogfights featuring only jets.
Classic Maps and New Regions Await Players
Wake Island, one of the most iconic maps in the Battlefield series, brings the fierce atmosphere of the Pacific to modern platforms with this update.
Players will have to develop strategies across a wide range of terrain, from coastal defense battles to aircraft carrier-centric conflicts. The map’s unique structure promises an all-out war experience with heavy use of both naval and land vehicles.
Tsuru Reef, already the game’s largest map, also receives a significant expansion. Aircraft carriers, previously featured as environmental elements in Conquest and Escalation modes, are now playable.
Furthermore, a sunken aircraft carrier area called “USS Grant” near Fort Lyndon has been added to the REDSEC Battle Royale mode. This area has been marked as a High Value Zone, where the most intense battles will take place in the first weeks of the game due to its high-value loot.
The newly added Interdictor sniper rifle has a long range, capable of shooting pilots from inside the cockpit.
Technical Adjustments Improve Game Quality
In addition to visual and content improvements, the update also brings many technical optimizations. Jet control mechanics have been completely revamped, and a “Flight Control Assist” option has been added for beginners. This feature makes controlling the aircraft easier, helping new pilots adapt to air combat more quickly. Additionally, underwater animations, swimming speeds, and surface transitions have been made much smoother.
Significant strides have also been made in weapon stability. Inconsistencies in weapons like the EF88 and VSSM have been fixed, and a new indicator showing bullet spread while aiming has been added. On the Portal side, support for creating custom lobbies in Battle Royale Quads and Conquest modes has been introduced for competitive communities. Tsuru Reef and Wake Island maps have also been opened for creative players with SDK updates.
Comprehensive Seasonal Content Offered
Update 1.4.2.0 is considered one of the biggest content packs Battlefield 6 has received since its release. With the Top Gun collaboration, the return of a beloved map, and a free trial week, EA and DICE aim to revitalize the player base. Despite being the best-selling game of 2025, the company has experienced a decline in player numbers over time, and these efforts aim to regain its former popularity.
