AMD Zen 6 Ryzen Processors: Olympic Ridge and Medusa Are Coming

AMD has officially announced the Olympic Ridge and Medusa processor families with Zen 6 architecture. Details of the Ryzen processors coming in 2027 are here.

AMD has confirmed the highly anticipated Zen 6-based Ryzen processor series via an announcement on its official Technical Information Portal. The company is preparing the new generation processor families codenamed Olympic Ridge and Medusa1 for the desktop segment, while planning to release the Medusa1 and Medusa2 architectures for portable platforms. Expected to be unveiled at CES in early 2027, these new processors will run on AM5 and FP10 platforms. This technologically offensive, expected to directly compete with Intel’s Nova Lake series, aims to open the doors to a new era in the world of high-performance computing.

Desktop Processors are Powered by Olympic Ridge

In its new strategy for desktop users, AMD is focusing on the Olympic Ridge family, which will replace the currently used Ryzen 9000 series. These new processors target the high-performance PC segment, featuring higher clock speeds and enhanced 3D V-Cache support.

The architectural design is said to scale up to 24 cores in total, housing up to 12 Zen 6 cores on a single CCD. Aiming to balance power efficiency and performance with TDP values ​​between 65 and 170 Watts, these processors will be fully compatible with current and future AM5 socket architectures.

Medusa Series Renews APU Technology

In the desktop segment, alongside the Olympic Ridge, the Medusa1 series also stands out in the APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) category. As a continuation of the Ryzen 8000G series, these APUs combine integrated graphics units updated with the Zen 6 architecture. This makes it possible to achieve high visual performance without the need for a separate graphics card.

Promising a smoother experience, especially in gaming and general use scenarios, the Medusa1 series aims to solidify AMD’s leadership in the APU market.

The Medusa Era Begins on Mobile Platforms

AMD’s portable segment strategy is built on Medusa1 and Medusa2, developed for the FP10 platform. Medusa1 will be preferred for standard high-performance laptops, while Medusa2 will be preferred for entry-level devices and those seeking greater power efficiency.

The Medusa1 series, with its scalability up to 22 cores, will offer a significant performance increase compared to the existing Strix and Gorgon series. Furthermore, the use of the RDNA 4m graphics architecture in some SKUs will take graphics processing capabilities in laptops to a new level.
