AMD Radeon RX 9050 Disappoints with Performance

The AMD Radeon RX 9050 was disappointed by lagging behind the RTX 5050 by -30 in the first tests. Here are the performance details of the new graphics card.

AMD’s new entry-level graphics card, the Radeon RX 9050, disappointed expectations with its performance in initial tests following its release. Extensive comparisons conducted by the Japanese technology publication Hermita revealed that the 8GB version of the AMD Radeon RX 9050 was between 20% and 30% slower than the already criticized NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 in terms of price/performance. In both synthetic tests and gaming scenarios, NVIDIA’s entry-level analysis managed to significantly outperform AMD’s new RDNA 4 architecture card.

RX 9050 Falls Below Expectations

Difference Observed in Synthetic Tests

Synthetic benchmark tests such as 3DMark Speed ​​Way, Port Royal, and Steel Nomad clearly reveal the hardware difference between the two GPUs.

In these tests, the RTX 5050 maintains its architectural superiority and achieves higher scores. However, while the RX 9050 is observed to close the gap slightly with its competitor in some specific tests like Time Spy, the overall picture remains unchanged.

Especially in-game at medium settings, the performance difference widens, while at ultra settings, this difference narrows somewhat.

Pricing Policy Debates Rekindled

AMD has officially set a price tag of $279 for the RX 9050. The RTX 5050, which sells for around $300, stands out as a more logical choice for users with its 20-30% higher performance. Although the card comes in two different versions, 4GB and 8GB, this entry-level pricing strategy directly and negatively affects its competitiveness in the market.
