60% of Airbnb Codes Are Now Written by Artificial Intelligence

Airbnb announced in its 2026 first quarter report that 100% of the newly written codes were produced by artificial intelligence.

Airbnb is making a big announcement in the technology world at the meeting where it announces the first quarter financial results of 2026. The company shares that 60% of the new codes produced by its engineers this quarter were written by artificial intelligence tools.

The giant company, which centers artificial intelligence not only on the coding side but also at every stage of the operation, from customer service to search experience, represents a new threshold in efficiency. Brian Chesky, the company’s CEO, emphasizes that this huge power provided by artificial intelligence allows a single engineer to manage the work that used to be done by teams of 20 people, in a “supervisor” role.

  • 60% of new software codes developed within Airbnb are now produced by artificial intelligence.

  • 40% of customer support requests are resolved by artificial intelligence bots without the need for a human representative.

  • The company’s revenue increased by 18% compared to the previous year, reaching 2.7 billion dollars, while its net profit reached 160 million dollars.

New Era in Software Development: One Engineer Strengthens an Army

Airbnb’s first quarter earnings report for 2026 proves how technology companies have undergone a radical change. CEO Brian Chesky states that artificial intelligence serves as a tremendous leverage, especially in tools developed for API partners. According to Chesky, projects that previously took weeks for large teams of engineers are now completed in a much shorter time, thanks to artificial intelligence agents.

The critical point here is that artificial intelligence does not just perform simple tasks; It also plays an active role in technical areas such as complex API integrations and platform management. Engineers are no longer people who write code line by line, but they are becoming orchestra conductors who control and give commands to artificial intelligence agents.

This enables the revival of many projects that were shelved due to lack of resources. In this period when giants such as Google, Microsoft and Spotify are going through similar paths, Airbnb is taking a bold step by entrusting more than half of its codes to AI.

The Human-Artificial Intelligence Balance is Changing in Customer Services

Airbnb’s artificial intelligence move is not limited to behind-the-scenes codes; There is also a great increase in efficiency at the points that directly touch the user. According to the data shared by the company, customer support bots now resolve 40% of incoming requests on their own, without the need for a human.

This rate, which was around 33% at the beginning of the year, has made a significant jump in just a few months, revealing the learning speed of artificial intelligence.

However, Brian Chesky candidly admits that current AI interfaces still present some obstacles for the travel and e-commerce industry. Chesky thinks current chatbot designs are inadequate for complex processes such as travel planning. According to him, there are four main problems in current systems:

  1. Text Density:Even though e-commerce is a visually focused field, chatbots still rely heavily on text.

  2. Lack of Control:Instead of making selections with scroll bars or buttons, users have to type everything with the keyboard.

  3. Comparison Difficulty:A user trying to choose between thousands of options can get lost in a chat window.

  4. Social Structure:Travel plans are usually made in groups, but existing chatbots offer a completely individual experience.

Artificial Intelligence Impact and Growth in Financial Statements

This artificial intelligence-driven productivity increase is also directly reflected in financial results. Airbnb will increase its revenues by 18% in the first quarter of 2026, reaching the 2.7 billion dollar threshold. On the net income side, there is an increase of 3.9% with a figure of 160 million dollars. The number of nights booked also increased by 9% compared to the previous year, reaching 156.2 million.

Additionally, the “Book Now, Pay Later” feature introduced by the company is a huge success, accounting for approximately 20% of the total booking value. This financial success shows that in the technology world, artificial intelligence is not just a “cost reduction” tool, but also a strategic investment that increases revenues and user satisfaction. Airbnb builds the future not only with code but with a vision blended with artificial intelligence.
