NVIDIA announced the new RTX 5070 graphics card model with 12GB VRAM capacity for laptops. The new models are released in June.
NVIDIA is preparing to offer a new option for the GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card for the laptop market. The company officially announced that it will add a 12GB memory version to the existing 8GB VRAM capacity model.
This new configuration was shared in NVIDIA’s current blog post about Game Ready drivers. The company states that it has developed a new configuration with 24Gb G7 memory modules in order to overcome memory supply constraints and increase availability.
New 12GB RTX 5070 Models Coming in June
The first laptops with the new graphics card option are planned to be released from June. Manufacturers such as ASUS, Lenovo and MSI are expected to offer this new 12GB capacity card as an option in some of their models.
NVIDIA has not yet shared official pricing information for this new model. Reports in the industry indicate that the prices of RTX 5070 models with 12GB memory may be close to 5070 Ti-equipped devices.
The new model uses 24Gb G7 memory technology instead of the current 16Gb G7 memory. These two types of memory go through different production processes, and the 24Gb version consists of 3GB modules.
Technical Details and Performance Expectation
NVIDIA did not provide details on whether it made any major changes to the general architecture of the card while increasing the memory capacity of this new model. Experts state that unless an expansion is made in the 192-bit bus interface, the added memory will not be able to reach speeds as high as those in the 5070 Ti models.
This shows that although 12GB VRAM capacity seems like a big increase on paper, it may have a limited impact in real usage scenarios. However, in terms of gaming performance, this difference is not expected to cause a noticeable problem for most users.
The fact that manufacturers such as Samsung and Micron have recently produced these memory modules more consistently plays an important role in NVIDIA taking this step. With this new option, the company aims to meet the strong demand for the GeForce RTX series.
What do you think about the effects of increasing VRAM capacity on laptops on the gaming experience?
