Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg envisions a future where billions of people will have their own personal AI assistants within the next five years. The company argues that this technology will understand users’ intentions and work for them around the clock.

In his quarterly earnings meeting with investors, Zuckerberg stated that this technology will assist in areas such as finance, health, interpersonal relationships, and home management. He said that WhatsApp and other messaging platforms will be critically important for users to interact with these AI systems.

AI Strategy and Investor Concerns

While Meta focuses on systems that can act according to users’ intentions, Competitors like Google and Anthropic are also working in similar areas. However, Meta’s aggressive spending in this area continues to raise some questions among investors.

The company’s shares fell by approximately 10 percent following the announcement of its latest quarterly earnings. The Reality Labs unit reported a loss of approximately $4.6 billion this quarter, bringing its total losses since 2021 to $88 billion.

Meta’s free cash flow decreased by 91 percent compared to the same period last year, driven by investments in AI infrastructure. To support these investments, the company announced it will build a $14 billion data center in El Paso, Texas, in collaboration with BlackRock.

Future Revenue Models

Zuckerberg believes these investments in AI will form the basis of the company’s future products and revenue streams. To date, business-focused AI assistants, available through WhatsApp and Messenger, have been adopted by over one million businesses worldwide.

Meta aims to extend its success in the corporate sector to the individual user side.
