Windows 11 ARM Gaming Test: RTX 4060 Example

The experiment of running an RTX 4060 graphics card on Windows 11 ARM draws attention with low performance results. Here are the details.

NVIDIA is preparing to release its first native drivers for the Windows 11 ARM platform for the RTX Spark project. Although a developer manages to run an RTX graphics card on this operating system, the results are quite low in terms of performance.

This trial, which was conducted by combining the Huawei Qingyun W510 server processor and RTX 4060 graphics card, shows that combining hardware designed for different platforms is not efficient. This system, installed with a 24-core processor and 32GB DDR4 RAM, was prepared with an open source patch to run on Windows 11 ARM.

Hardware incompatibility and performance issues

Although Windows 11 can run x64 applications through a translation layer, this is not the case for kernel-level drivers. Thanks to the local driver developed for RTX Spark, it was possible to introduce the RTX 4060 card to the system, but this does not seem very suitable for daily use.

On the gaming performance side, the results are well below expectations. While games running via the translation layer offer low frame rates, the weak single-core performance of the Qingyun W510 processor creates a significant bottleneck for the graphics card.

Low frame rates in gaming tests

While the Black Myth: Wukong game reaches an average of 21 FPS at 1080p resolution, Genshin Impact remains at 20 FPS at the same resolution. The results of the hardware in local ARM64-based 3DMark tests were recorded as 43,530 points for Night Raid, 32,370 points for Solar Bay and 2,252 points for Speed ​​Way.

These data clearly show that incompatible hardware and software combinations should not be preferred. If you are considering making such an experiment to satisfy your curiosity, it would be useful to consider the current performance results.
