It is claimed that Apple’s OLED iPad small model, which is expected to be released soon, will come with a 60Hz display panel. Here are the highlights about the new iPad small.
A remarkable thesis has been put forward about Apple’s new OLED iPad small model, which is expected to be released towards the end of this year. According to information based on branch sources, it is claimed that the device will come with an 8.4-inch display panel with a 60Hz refresh rate.
This information, featured on the South Korea-based Naver blog, is based on details from the Apple supply chain. Allegedly, the new iPad will use a hybrid OLED display with small, low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) back panel technology.
Display Technology and Expectations
The two-layer low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panels in Apple’s current iPad Pro models support ProMotion technology, which offers a dynamic refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz. On the other hand, LTPS OLED panels usually work with fixed refresh rates such as 60Hz, 90Hz or 120Hz and can offer lower brightness levels compared to LTPO panels.
This leak that the new iPad mini will come with a 60Hz screen may be disappointing for users expecting a high refresh rate. The use of 120Hz ProMotion panels in the iPhone 17 series created a similar expectation for the first OLED iPad mini.
However, the fact that Apple still prefers 60Hz OLED panels in some devices, such as the iPhone 17e model, shows that the company is taking a different approach to its market strategy.
It is stated that the screen panels of the device are produced on the A2 generation production line located in Samsung Display’s Asan campus in South Korea. It is known that Samsung can produce both LTPO and LTPS panels at this production limit, so there are still question marks about the absoluteness of the leak.
OLED technology promises advantages such as higher contrast, deeper blacks and better power efficiency compared to the LCD screens used in the current iPad small 7 model.
Production Process and Future Plans
Reports previously shared by ETNews confirmed that the mass production process of the iPad small 8 model had started in Samsung factories. Although Apple has not yet announced an official release date for the new generation iPad mini, the device is expected to be introduced towards the end of 2026.
It is also among the information that Apple will use the A19 Pro chip in the new iPad small model developed under the code names J510 and J511. These upgrades on the hardware side of the device will be an important step for performance-oriented users despite the constant refresh rate discussions in display technology.
How do you think Apple’s choice of a 60Hz screen in the new iPad small model will affect the user experience?
