With the WhatsApp Android beta 2.26.20.6 update, a new storage feature that allows clearing the space occupied by “Status” shares has emerged.
The update with version code 2.26.20.6, distributed through the Google Play Beta Program, allows users to directly control the storage space of “Status” shares, which is one of the areas that consume the most data. Thanks to this new step, it is now possible to quickly free up space on the device without having to delete chats.
Special Administration for Status Shares:WhatsApp will separately show how much space status updates take up with a new filter it will add to the “Manage Storage” page.
Person-Based Cleanliness Opportunity:Users will be able to detect status documents shared by individuals with high media consumption and clear them from their devices in bulk.
Fast Memory Recovery:When the phone memory is full, free space can be quickly created by deleting only temporary status media instead of valuable chat history or photos.
Memory-Friendly WhatsApp: Manage Storage Section Is Developing
The new feature, which is under development, takes WhatsApp’s existing storage management tools one step further. As it is known, the application has a bar indicator that shows which chat currently takes up how much space and which large-sized documents are. However, status updates (stories) that were automatically loaded in the background and accumulated in the device memory could not be clearly separated in this table until now.
With the new update, a special management area for status updates is included at the top of the “Manage Storage” tab. When users enter this section, they can see in lists how much space the images or photos shared by each contact entry occupy on the phone. In this way, it becomes much more practical to clean up individual individuals’ media accumulations.
Ease of Freeing Up Space Without Deleting Chats
Many smartphone users first try to delete old chat windows or media in clusters when they run out of space on their device.
However, this may also cause the loss of valuable messages or family photos that may be needed in the future. WhatsApp aims to eliminate this problem completely with the option to filter status updates.
Status media, which actually disappears after twenty-four hours but continue to take up space in the cache, become the primary purpose of cleaning. By clearing this temporary data with a single tap, users can regain hundreds of megabytes of space in seconds without damaging their chats.
This smart cleaning tool, which is still in the development stage, is planned to be made available to all Android and iOS users in the coming weeks after the stability tests are completed.
