WhatsApp moves status stories directly to the top of the chats tab with the iOS beta update. Details of the new horizontal design that removes the camera button are in our news.
Released via TestFlight beta program 26.20.10.71The new iOS version with code allows users to see the stories shared by individuals in their contacts in a much faster and more practical way.
This vertical story flow, which was previously only accessible from the “Updates” tab, now appears as a horizontal strip directly at the top of the “Chats” list. This attack aims to completely change users’ navigation habits within the application.
Horizontal Status Flow in Chats Tab:Instant status updates shared by your contacts are now listed in a horizontal strip at the top of the main chat screen, replacing the “Chats” heading.
Removing Camera Shortcut:WhatsApp, which wants to give the top navigation bar a cleaner and simpler appearance, completely removes the camera shortcut button in this section from the interface.
Reducing Dependency on the Updates Tab:The need to always switch between tabs to check the status is eliminated; Users can access all current stories from a single screen by scrolling down the chat list.
Era of Multiple Access Points for Status Feature
WhatsApp has been working on different formulas for a long time to increase the interaction of users with each other and the visibility of shared content. With the new update, accessing status posts has now become much easier.
In current stable versions, users have to visit the “Updates” tab in the submenu to see the status. With the new structure, this obligation is greatly relaxed.
Developers prefer to make status updates accessible from different points of the application rather than confining them to a single place. First, the colored ring indicator that appears around the profile photo while scrolling through the main chat list remains.
In addition, when you enter a person’s chat information page (Chat Info), it is possible to see the last status shared by clicking on their profile photo. Now, a new horizontal stream is added to this chain, placed at the top of the chats tab.
Say Goodbye to the Camera Button for a Clean Interface
When adding this new horizontal strip, WhatsApp engineers want to avoid visual crowding that may occur at the top of the screen.
For this purpose, the built-in camera shortcut button, which has been in the upper right corner of the screen for a long time, is completely removed with the new design.
Removing the camera button gives the top navigation bar a much more minimal and contemporary feel. Users slowly scroll down the chat list when they want to see the horizontal status strip.
With this movement, small circular profile windows of individuals with currently active stories appear at the top of the screen. If they wish, users can quickly create and share their own statuses directly through this interface.
What Will the Future of the Updates Tab Be Like?
This radical design change directly affects the functionality of other tabs of the application. Moving status updates to the main chat screen significantly reduces the need for the “Updates” tab in the submenu. Because users no longer need to switch to that tab specifically to see what their friends are sharing.
So, is the Updates tab completely dysfunctional? Of course not. This section continues to be the main hub for WhatsApp Channels.
However, it is assumed that the frequency of ordinary users visiting this tab in daily use will decrease noticeably. It will not be surprising if WhatsApp makes this tab a completely dedicated area for channels and community announcements in the future.
Ad-free and Pure Experience is Protected
Sponsored content and advertisements, which we frequently encounter in the story sections of social media platforms, are not currently included in this new horizontal status area of WhatsApp. The company is building this new feature, which is in the testing phase, entirely on optimizing the user experience.
Not placing a random ad in the middle of the stories prevents users from losing the fluidity of the chat screen.
Currently, a limited group of beta testers included in the iOS TestFlight program can experience this new interface. It is expected that the testing process will be expanded in the coming weeks and gradually distributed to stable version users.
With the feature becoming generally available, all smartphone users have a much more integrated and practical WhatsApp interface.
