WhatsApp Chat List is Renewed from Top to Bottom

WhatsApp Chat List is Renewed from Top to Bottom

WhatsApp is completely revamping its chat list interface. Details of the new design, which includes features such as filter management and channel separation with the “More” button, are in our news.

WhatsApp is taking another giant step to improve user experience. The confusion experienced in the home page interface, especially with the Channels and Communities feature that has recently entered our lives, spurred Meta engineers into action. According to the latest information shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is completely redesigning the “Chat List” interface. This new update aims to better organize conversations while also accelerating users’ access to the people and groups they interact with the most.

The “More” Era Begins in Chat Lists

The new interface that WhatsApp is developing is actually an upgraded version of the “Chat Filters” feature that has been tested for a while. Filters such as “All”, “Unread”, “Favorites” and “Groups” located at the top of the screen in the current version have a more flexible structure with the new design.

Users now decide which filters appear on the home screen. While unnecessary filters can be hidden, all filtering options can be accessed via the newly added “More” button.

This innovation is a lifesaver, especially for users who have a lot of group and individual chats.

For example, if your “Favorites” list is empty or you do not use this feature, this tab will no longer take up space on your home screen. With this move, WhatsApp reduces the visual crowding in the interface and makes the navigation process much more fluid.

Channels and Chats Are Completely Separated From Each Other

Another important development is happening on the Channels side. WhatsApp had started integrating the Channels section into the Chats tab; However, this caused confusion for many users.

The new design envisages a special list structure for Channels. In this way, the shares of the content creators you follow are collected under a regular menu, without getting mixed up with your personal messages. When you click on the “More” option, you can see only the contents of the filter you selected (for example, only Channels or only Business chats) in a separate window that opens.

What are the Design Moves of the Competitors?

This interface change of WhatsApp is considered as a response to the “folder” and “category” systems that its industry rivals Telegram and Signal have been offering for a long time.

  • Telegram:It allows users to group their messages as they wish with the “Chat Folders” feature that it has been offering for years. WhatsApp’s new design aims to approach Telegram’s flexibility while trying to maintain its simplicity.

  • signal:Offering a very simple interface as well as its privacy-oriented structure, Signal has recently been focusing on visual modernization with transparent design elements such as “Liquid Glass”.

  • Discord:Discord, which has categorized messaging from the very beginning with its multi-server and channel structure, is still the strongest alternative in professional and community-oriented use.

This new design of WhatsApp aims to increase functionality without sacrificing simplicity. However, it is not yet clear whether it will provide as extensive customization opportunities as its Competitors offer.

“Liquid Glass” Effect in Design Language

In addition to these innovations developed simultaneously for Android and iOS platforms, a new design language called “Liquid Glass” is also being tested by Apple. With this design language, interface elements become more transparent, transitions are smoother and the perception of depth is higher.

Rearrangement of the chat list is also seen as part of this modernization operation. Floating buttons and translucent navigation bars signal that WhatsApp will have a much more “premium” appearance in the coming period.

These features are currently under development and will be offered to beta users first. The stable version is expected to be gradually distributed to all users by the second half of 2026.
