What’s the Latest Status on the Special Glass iPhone Model for the 20th Anniversary?

The all-glass iPhone model, which Apple allegedly developed for its 20th anniversary, was canceled due to production issues. Here are the details.

It is claimed that Apple’s special model, designed entirely of glass to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, has been canceled due to technical difficulties in production. According to information shared by Jefferies analyst Edison Lee, this ambitious project, expected to be released in the fall of 2027, has been shelved due to insufficient production efficiency.

This development, which caused a major stir on Wall Street, led to a 2.1% drop in Apple shares and triggered investor concerns about the tech giant’s future pricing strategies.

  • Jefferies analyst Edison Lee announced that the project was completely canceled due to production efficiency issues.
  • Apple shares subsequently lost 2.1% of their value.
  • Analyst Edison Lee downgraded the company’s share rating to “Underperform”.

Technical Problems in Production Changed Plans.

The “all-glass” iPhone design, which has been discussed in the technology world since 2025, was considered the most radical change seen since the iPhone X.

The curved glass structure covering the front and back of the device, the screen design without any visible cutouts, and the under-display Face ID technology were planned. However, low efficiency in production processes made mass production of this futuristic device impossible.

Low production efficiency rates brought an end to Apple’s most ambitious design project.

Investors became uneasy about Apple shares.

Following this development, Jefferies downgraded its Apple share price from “Hold” to “Underperform,” lowering its target price to $263.66. Analyst Edison Lee argues that this cancellation may not be limited to a single model, and that it also undermines Apple’s ability to price higher iPhone Pro and Pro Max series in the future.

Rising memory costs and the slow rollout of Apple Intelligence features are making it difficult for the company to defend its profit margins.

Strategic Goals Being Re-evaluated

Apple is struggling to keep the high RAM capacity required for AI-powered features in new iPhone models under cost pressure.

Experts say that the increase in costs for next-generation devices like the iPhone 19 Pro Max will directly affect the company’s profit margins. In particular, the cancellation of this special device, expected to have a high starting price of around $2,060, is also hindering the company’s revenue growth goals in the premium segment.

It is not yet clear whether the entire project or only the glass design has been shelved. Obstacles in the production of screen technologies like Dynamic Island actually showed that implementing such a radical design was difficult.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether Apple’s other innovative features, such as the quad-curved case design, will reappear in a different form in the future.

Do you think Apple should make such radical changes in design, or is it more realistic to maintain the current design language? Don’t forget to share your opinions and expectations for future iPhone models with us in the comments section.
