Epic Games announced that the first game to use Unreal Engine 6 will be Rocket League. The new engine comes with multi-threaded simulation support.
An important announcement was made at the Rocket League Championship Series 2026 event held in Paris. Developer Psyonix and Epic Games announced that the well-known game will be the first production to use the new Unreal Engine 6 version.
For now, no official information has been shared about the update or the technical details of the engine. However, Epic Games’ previous statements give clues about the main purposes of the new generation game engine.
Multi-Threaded Simulation Era with Unreal Engine 6
Epic Games president Tim Sweeney stated in his evaluations in May 2025 that he aimed to unify the development processes of Unreal Engine 6. One of the most important innovations of the engine will be the transition to multi-threaded game simulation, overcoming the long-standing single-threaded simulation bottleneck.
Sweeney states that the new engine will not only be a visual upgrade, but also a structure that brings the Unreal and Fortnite ecosystems closer together. Unreal Engine 6 is planned to integrate the Verse programming language as a core layer and become the center point that unifies UE5 and UEFN workflows.
A New Era for Developers
In line with its long-term goals, Epic Games aims to make the engine more accessible to content creators. This vision promises a development environment where technical difficulties are reduced and game systems can be updated more safely without dealing with manual threading problems.
This announcement for Rocket League has raised expectations that Unreal Engine 6 preview versions may arrive sooner than expected. Although Epic Games does not share an exact schedule yet, the Unreal Engine 5 process in the past provides a reference point.
Unreal Engine 5 was announced in May 2020 and was made available in its full version approximately 23 months later. It is estimated that a similar timeline may apply for the development process of Unreal Engine 6.
How do you think these technical innovations that Unreal Engine 6 will bring will change the gaming world?
