Minimalist Light Phone III went on sale in collaboration with Noble Mobile. Discover this new model that offers refunds to those who consume less data.
Offering a minimalist phone experience, Light Phone has started a new collaboration with Noble Mobile, a mobile operator founded by Andrew Yang. Within the scope of this partnership, a system is being implemented where users can get a refund if they consume less data.
As of Tuesday, 500 Light Phone III models are available for sale through Noble Mobile. Users who want to get the device quickly must sign a two-year subscription agreement that includes a monthly payment of $50.
New sales model with Noble Mobile
Thanks to this collaboration, Light Phone III can be purchased directly for the first time without requiring prepayment and without waiting period. The device, which is normally sold with a price tag of $699, is available to users with a Noble Mobile subscription for a total contract price of $1,200.
Noble Mobile aims to reduce digital consumption by refunding 1 dollar for each unused GB if users use less than 20 GB of data per month. These refunds can be received in cash or accumulated in the form of reward points.
Light Phone co-founder Joe Hollier states that the aim of the initiative is to make users’ relationship with technology more controlled. The company aims to offer a middle ground for those who want to move away from the constant connectedness created by smartphones.
Light Phone III, unlike previous models, comes with an OLED screen and both front and rear cameras. However, these cameras are designed not to focus on social media sharing, but to offer a more nostalgic and moment-capturing experience.
Minimalist design and technical details
In addition to meeting basic communication needs, the device is supported by limited applications such as road description and guide. Light Phone III does not offer RCS support and uses the classic SMS infrastructure for messaging.
This situation brings with it some restrictions on group chats or media sharing. Co-founder Kaiwei Tang states that their goal is not to completely disconnect users from technology, but to offer a tool free of distractions.
Users can sometimes choose to use a second phone to maintain the minimalist structure offered by the device. Light Phone emphasizes that such usage scenarios are shaped by individual preferences and that no single solution fits everyone.
Despite the difficulties in hardware supply, the company has shipped 20 thousand devices to date.
How do you think giving up the heavy features offered by smartphones and switching to such a minimalist device would affect your daily life?
