Terrible Error on New MacBook Pro Screen

Terrible Error on New MacBook Pro Screen

It is claimed that MacBook Pro models with M5 Max processors experience screen discoloration after heavy workloads. Here are the details about the overheating problem.

The Apple Silicon architecture, which Apple has developed since 2020, has performed successfully with existing cooling solutions so far. However, recent feedback from MacBook Pro users with the new M5 Max processor shows that the cooling system of the device may be inadequate under heavy workloads.

One user stated that color distortions occurred at the bottom of the screen as a result of the device getting too hot during heavy processes such as local LLM hosting. This situation brought about discussions that the cooling design of the laptop should be considered for high-performance tasks.

Heating problem and its effects on the screen

The color distortion observed on the display panel directly coincides with the area where the air vents of the MacBook Pro are located. The user states that this situation does not change even when the cover of the device is at 90 degrees or fully open.

While it is expected that the hot air coming from the device’s air outlet will not affect the screen under normal conditions, the M5 Max processor’s ability to reach temperatures exceeding 100 degrees puts pressure on the hardware. The M5 Max processor is supported by a cooling system that includes a single heat pipe and two low-profile fans.

Although this cooling structure is sufficient for short-term processes, the surface temperatures of the device reach quite high levels under heavy workloads. Experts point out that such a situation may negatively affect the lifespan of the screen.

Expectation of change in cooling technology

Although this is currently considered an isolated incident, users are recommended to request a replacement through the AppleCare+ service. It is said that next generation MacBook Pro models should switch to vapor chamber technology for more efficient cooling.

In addition, the use of more effective thermal paste solutions such as PTM7950 also stands out as an option in terms of performance and temperature management. It remains a matter of curiosity whether Apple will make a fundamental change in the cooling design with the M6 series.

Do you think Apple should completely change the cooling system in high-performance MacBook Pro models?
