Spotify has announced a new AI-powered running mode that selects music according to the pace of running enthusiasts. Here are the features exclusive to premium subscribers.
Spotify has officially launched its new ‘running mode’ feature, developed specifically for users who enjoy listening to music while running. Available exclusively to premium subscribers within the Fitness Hub, this new feature automatically creates music playlists based on users’ pace and individual preferences. Activated on Wednesday for iOS users in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden, the system can adjust the rhythm according to different stages of the run. This innovation, which stands out with its AI-powered infrastructure, reflects Spotify’s aim to take the fitness experience to a more personal level.
This new AI-based feature synchronizes running pace directly with music selection.
Users can customize their running experience in detail.
Spotify’s new running mode doesn’t just play random music; it also allows customization according to different workout types such as interval running, steady-paced running, or pyramid running. Users can customize parameters such as the type of music they want to listen to, as well as beats per minute (BPM) and workout duration. This allows each user to create the music foundation best suited to their fitness goals.
AI-Powered System Offers New Possibilities
The AI-powered playlist technology, which the company has been working on for a year and which has garnered significant interest, forms the basis of this new mode. Spotify observed users’ habits of manually creating playlists for fitness activities and transformed this information into an automated process. The platform sees this step as a continuation of its fitness-focused strategies, following its previous collaboration with Peloton.
Following the end of its integration with Strava, Spotify is strengthening its own fitness ecosystem.
Voice Command Support Currently Works in English
The running mode offers voice guidance not only for managing music playlists but also for indicating your progress during your run. However, it should be noted that this voice command support currently only works in English. Whether the language support will be expanded in the future remains to be seen.
Following Strava’s decision to discontinue Spotify integration in recent months, Spotify’s development of such a comprehensive fitness feature within its own platform clearly reveals its strategy of keeping users within the app. This innovation, offered to premium users, proves how deeply integrated digital music platforms are with fitness technologies.
