At the heart of this massive growth in energy infrastructure are sustainable resources. The renewable energy initiative, which constitutes approximately two-thirds of the total capacity, plays a key role in Turkey’s strategy to reduce its dependence on foreign sources. Current information shared by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources shows that the momentum in solar and wind power, in particular, continues unabated.

Green Transformation Gains Momentum in Energy Architecture

Strategic steps taken in the energy sector are fundamentally changing Turkey’s production portfolio When data from the end of June is examined, renewable power sources account for 79,062 megawatts of the total capacity of 126,113 MW. This proves that 62.7% of the total infrastructure consists entirely of clean power.

However, the share of domestic resources, a critical parameter in closing the current account deficit and ensuring power supply security, rises to 71.9%. The increasing electricity demand in every area, from industrial production to domestic consumption, is met with clean and domestic resources, directly contributing to economic sustainability.

New Level in Solar and Wind Energy

Thanks to technological investments and ease of unlicensed production in recent years, solar energy is climbing to the top ranks in the installed power rankings. As of June 2026, solar energy installed power will reach 27,210 megawatts, achieving a 21.6% share in the total capacity.

Wind power plants also provide strong support for this transformation. Reaching a total capacity of 15,281 megawatts, wind power constitutes 12.1% of the overall portfolio.

The enormous capacity of 42,491 megawatts created by combining solar and wind power corresponds to 33.7% of Turkey’s total electricity power. Thus, the total of these two sources alone manages to surpass the share of fossil fuel-supported power plants.

Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, which increased the prices of the latest figures announced Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar emphasizes that the success achieved is a result of the strategic vision.

Stating that exceeding the legal and technical limit of 126,000 megawatts in installed electricity capacity is a historic step, Bayraktar draws attention to the growth momentum, especially in solar and wind power.

Ministry officials, stating that this major transformation in energy architecture will continue, are continuing to increase the rate of domestic production thanks to infrastructure modernization, wind and solar power plants with storage, and new generation grid solutions. In line with the vision of “Completely Independent Turkey in Energy,” it is planned to further reduce the share of fossil fuel-based imported resources in the coming period.
