Apple will use the new generation LTPO+ display technology in the iPhone 18 Pro series, which extends battery life and reduces screen flickering.
Apple’s upcoming flagship models, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, are expected to retain the same 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes as their predecessors.
However, a new leaked report reveals that there will be a critical upgrade in the technology underlying these giant screens.
Advanced LTPO+ Technology and Supplier Switching
According to the report shared by The Elec, Apple will use new generation OLED panels instead of standard LTPO on the iPhone 18 Pro. LTPO+is transitioning to technology.
Leaks indicate that almost all of the iPhone 18 Pro panels will be produced by Samsung Display and LG Display. It was reported that BOE, which was an important partner of Apple in the previous generation (iPhone 17 Pro), could not receive approval for this year’s flagships.
Industry sources cite BOE’s lagging behind Samsung and LG in terms of both panel quality and production efficiency, and production difficulties in LTPO+ technology as the main reason for this situation.
What LTPO+ Offers: Longer Battery Life and Perfect Visuals
LTPO technology, which is the power behind the “Always-On Display” feature of iPhones and provides dynamic refresh rate, pushes the limits in its new form. While traditional LTPO technology applies oxide materials to Thin Film Transistors (TFT) that only switch; The new LTPO+ extends this usage to drive TFTs. This provides much more precise current control for OLED light emission.
This technological upgrade has two main benefits for users:
Faster Response in Low Light:More sensitive adjustments can be made, especially in low-light environments. In this way, flickering or grainy/sandy appearance problems that are frequently encountered on screens at low brightness levels will be minimized.
For now, the report does not contain any details about whether the “iPhone Ultra” model, which is expected to join the series and is intriguing, will benefit from this new screen technology.
