Samsung to Invest $1.72 Trillion for the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Samsung to Invest $1.72 Trillion for the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Samsung announced that it will make a huge investment of 1.72 trillion dollars in South Korea to adapt to the age of artificial intelligence. Here are all the details.

Samsung Electronics, one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, is implementing a massive investment plan worth 2.665 trillion KRW (approximately 1.72 trillion dollars) across South Korea in order to meet the requirements of the artificial intelligence (AI) era and increase its global competitiveness. With this strategic breakthrough, the company aims to modernize its production infrastructure and strengthen its technological ecosystem. Samsung announced that it will use this huge budget in a wide range of areas, from semiconductor production facilities to new generation battery technologies. This investment stands out as the biggest step the company has taken to consolidate its future technological leadership.

  • Samsung Electronics announced that it will invest $1.72 trillion in South Korea to support artificial intelligence infrastructure.
  • $1.32 trillion of the investment budget was allocated to the expansion of semiconductor production centers.
  • Technology ecosystems and R&D studies will be financed in Honam, Chungcheong and Yeongnam regions.

Semiconductor Production Capacity is Increasing

Samsung will use $1.32 trillion of the investment to expand its main production centers in Pyeongtaek Campus and Yongin National Industrial Complex. The company is expanding capacity at its Cheonan and Onyang facilities as the production of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips plays a critical role in the efficiency of AI servers.

The semiconductor industry is positioned as the cornerstone of the artificial intelligence revolution.

Innovation Centers Are Being Established in Honam Region

A new manufacturing facility and smart residential appliance innovation center based on digital twin technology will be built in the Gwangju Semiconductor Cluster. Samsung SDS will implement the Solasido Artificial Intelligence Data Center through a consortium to develop the domestic artificial intelligence ecosystem. This step aims to reduce foreign dependency, especially in the defense and finance departments.

Chungcheong Region is Becoming a Technology Base

In the Asan region, $43.4 billion was allocated to the production of ultra-high-resolution microdisplays and foldable OLED panels for AR, MR and VR devices. Samsung SDI will build a main factory for next-generation batteries in Cheonan, while Samsung Electro-Mechanics will create packaging substrate lines for AI servers in Sejong.

New generation display and battery technologies will determine the consumer electronics standards of the future.

Yeongnam District Focuses on Robotics and Manufacturing

In the Yeongnam region, production processes are completely transformed by artificial intelligence and robotic systems. While a global smartphone production center is being established in Gumi, studies will also be carried out on the production of humanoid robots. Giant facilities for solid-state batteries and power storage systems are rising in the cities of Busan, Ulsan and Geoje.
