AMD’s new Ryzen 7 9800HX3D processor is set to bring 3D V-Cache technology to more affordable gaming laptops.
AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology, which increases gaming performance, has been limited to desktop processors. A new leak shows that this technology can be moved to more accessible laptops.
Golden Pig Upgrade, one of the reliable sources in the industry, claims that AMD is working on a new laptop processor with Zen 5 architecture. This chip, which is expected to be named Ryzen 7 9800HX3D, aims to be included in mid- and high-end gaming computers.
More affordable gaming experience
So far, the only X3D processor on the laptop side stands out as the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D model, which offers very high performance. This powerful processor, with 16 cores and 32 threads, is often preferred in gaming computers worth over $2,000.
The newly leaked Ryzen 7 9800HX3D is positioned as an option targeting a lower segment. The fact that the processor comes with 8 cores and 16 threads makes it a more affordable member of the Ryzen 9000 series. Offering a 5.1GHz clock speed, this chip has a lower core count than the 12-core 9850HX model, but it provides an advantage in games with its 96MB L3 cache.
It is stated that AMD plans to put this new processor into mass production in the last quarter of 2026. The strongest candidate for the launch of the product is seen as the CES fair, which will be held at the beginning of 2027.
The new address of competition is laptops
AMD achieved significant success in the desktop gaming world with the 5800X3D processor it introduced in 2022. Its large L3 cache capacity helped strengthen the company’s position against Intel, and this strategy is now moving to portable devices.
Intel continues to largely defend its dominance in the laptop processor market. Although Ryzen 7 9800HX3D does not completely change this market stability on its own, it demonstrates AMD’s determination in the gaming-oriented laptop segment.
The company aims to offer users more stable options, especially in a period when DDR5 memory costs are high.
