Qualcomm has officially announced the new Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 platform, raising the bar in wearable audio technologies. The new generation chipset doubles the on-device AI processing power while reducing power consumption by 40 percent. Targeting classic wireless headphones as well as camera-equipped in-ear models, smart audio glasses, and multi-mode wearable devices, the platform aims to bring personal AI assistants directly to our ears.

AI and Micro-Powered Wi-Fi 6E Combined

Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 combines Qualcomm’s advanced audio architecture with AI algorithms that run directly on the device and ultra-low power integrated Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. The chip, fitted into a physical space 30 percent smaller than its predecessor, allows hardware manufacturers to develop much more compact and lightweight headset designs.

The chipset’s 2x AI performance increase enables local models to operate without relying on cloud communication for environmental analysis. This minimizes latency, especially in real-time translation, contextual voice filtering, and smart assistant interactions.

With Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, Qualcomm is not only focusing on the standard music listening experience; the platform is also laying the groundwork for a new generation of devices such as camera headsets and audio-focused smart glasses. The chip, which can match information from image sensors with sound algorithms, can understand the direction the user is looking and the objects around them, generating contextual sound feedback.

Qualcomm, which also shares reference designs with the aim of accelerating the prototyping processes of manufacturers, shows that the sound market will transform from passive accessories that only transmit music to independent AI terminals that interact with their surroundings in the coming period. The first commercial products using the new platform, where sound brands such as Cleer showcased early prototypes, are expected to be on shelves in the near future.
