Portable Super Power: What is Flipper One?

Portable Super Power: What is Flipper One?

Technical features, connection options and open source development process of Flipper One, a new generation Linux-based cyber security device.

Pocket-sized computer tools are a very attractive option for those who want to step into the developer world. The Flipper One project offers a full Linux kernel in a small chassis, promising a new platform for development, experimentation and cybersecurity testing.

The device is developed with a completely clear ideology on both hardware and software sides. Unlike Flipper Zero, Flipper One, designed as a networked Linux system, offers its users a wide range of connections.

Technical specifications and relationship options

Flipper One acts as a sort of Swiss army knife for IP networks. The device has a 5G modem, Wi-Fi 6E, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and wired connection support up to 5 Gbps via USB-C.

On the hardware side, the Rockchip RK3576 main processor and the low-power Raspberry Pi RP2350B microcontroller are used together. The device, which comes with 8 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, has a battery capacity of approximately 7000 mAh.

The device has a monochrome screen with a resolution of 256×144 pixels. In addition, the device, which is controlled by touchpad, D-pad and various navigation keys, has powerful port options such as HDMI, USB-A, 3.5mm audio jack and M.2 expansion slot.

On the software side, Debian-based FlipperOS is used and no special binary blocks are included. The FlipperCTL interface, specially developed for small screens, enables practical management of tools such as ping, nmap and traceroute.

The device can be used as a desktop computer or thin client when connected to a monitor. It can also turn into a media player with platforms such as Kodi on screens with HDMI input.

Development process and community contributions

The Flipper One project is now in development and requires community support to be completed. The Flipper team established a Developer Portal to carry out the entire development process transparently.

Through this portal, contributions can be made in areas such as hardware design, mechanical cutting, Linux firmware developments and interface design. In addition to software developers, designers and documentation experts can also support the progress of the project.

The project aims to share every detail, from hardware plans to software codes, by adopting a completely open source structure. This approach aims to pave the way for user-focused innovation.

This open and flexible structure offered by Flipper One is expected to be a valuable tool for those working in the field of cyber security and network administration. What kind of impact do you think Flipper One will have in the cyber security world with these features?
