Apple’s new generation portable processor A20 Pro is achieving remarkable success in the gaming world. This chip, located in the iPhone 18 Pro Max, exhibits performance comparable to a GTX 1650 graphics card in GTA 5.

This test, conducted through emulation, reveals the massive improvement in the graphics power of portable devices. Tests conducted on the Vapor emulator prove the playability of AAA games on portable platforms.

A20 Pro and GTA 5 Performance

In the tests conducted, the iPhone 18 Pro Max achieved an average of 66 FPS in urban driving scenes. In other scenes of the game, this rate can reach up to 80 FPS.

This performance is achieved at 1080p resolution and with DirectX 11 support. Graphics settings are supported by details such as high texture quality, FXAA, and 16x AF.

In addition, population density of 75 and distance scaling of 50 are used. Sharp shadows are kept enabled, while MSAA is left off.

Although the emulation process is still under development, the results obtained seem quite impressive. Users expect a more stable experience with the resolution of some minor problems in the game.

Technical Infrastructure and Cooling Solutions

Apple uses a 7-core GPU architecture in the A20 Pro chip. This hardware is supported by new generation packaging technology and an expanded vapor chamber.

The company has switched to a special packaging system called Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module, or WMCM. This system allows the chip to work more efficiently by moving the DRAM unit to the side.

This design change helps the device manage heating issues. Thus, the A20 Pro can maintain its high performance even under heavy graphics load.

Comparisons with the A19 Pro in the previous generation iPhone 17 Pro Max clearly show the improvement. The A20 Pro provides a 50% performance increase compared to its predecessor.

In particular, a 77% improvement is observed in frame rate values that are 1% lower. This data provides concrete evidence supporting Apple’s commitment to mobile gaming.

Developments in emulation are also progressing at a remarkably rapid pace. In the past, exceeding the 20 FPS mark was quite difficult in tests conducted with the XeniOS Xbox 360 emulator.

These new results offered by the emulator called Vapor redefine the capacity of portable devices to run desktop-level games. This point has been reached by technology that seems to be pushing the boundaries of future portable gaming experiences.

Apple’s hardware breakthrough not only takes processing power to the next level but also cooling and packaging technologies. These developments show that portable devices can now be used not only for daily tasks but also for significant gaming sessions.

Do you think portable devices could completely replace desktop gaming computers in the future?
