Phone Prices Will Soar: Qualcomm Increases Chip Prices

Phone Prices Will Soar: Qualcomm Increases Chip Prices

Qualcomm is increasing chip prices by double-digit percentages as of September 1st, citing rising supplier costs.

A significant development is taking place in the chip supply chain in the technology world; Qualcomm is preparing to increase chip prices by double-digit percentages starting tomorrow, citing rising costs. This strategic decision, announced in July, covers all components shipped after September 1st.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon stated that the company can no longer absorb the increasing supplier costs internally and that some of this burden must be passed on to customers. These price increases are considered a breakthrough that will directly affect not only technology giants like Apple, but also many smartphone manufacturers worldwide, including Samsung.

  • Qualcomm is implementing double-digit chip price increases effective September 1st.
  • CEO Cristiano Amon emphasizes that the decision was made to offset rising supplier costs.
  • Apple’s dependence on Qualcomm for modem chip supply is expected to decrease.
  • The price increases are a result of the global chip and storage unit supply crisis.

Cost Increases Affect the Technology Sector

The global shortage of DRAM and storage units has significantly increased the production costs of electronic device manufacturers. Due to this cost pressure, Apple updated the prices of its Mac and iPad models in June.

Industry analysts predict that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models will also be affected by these increases and will be launched with higher price tags. Qualcomm’s pricing strategy highlights the financial pressure on component suppliers.

The Relationship Between Apple and Qualcomm is Changing

On the Apple side, efforts to produce its own modem chips continue at full speed. While Apple continues to use Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 17 series, it plans to switch to its own C2 chips in the iPhone 18 Pro and future foldable models.

Leaked Tata Electronics documents show that Apple may have to rely on Qualcomm for modem supply in the United States market for a while longer. CEO Amon predicts that Qualcomm’s revenue from Apple could fall by approximately 50 percent in the last quarter of the year.

Manufacturers Are Revising Individual Contracts

Qualcomm is opting to conduct individual negotiations with its customers instead of applying price increases through a single standard. This means that each manufacturer will face different cost structures depending on their production volume and technology partnership.

It remains to be seen how giants like Samsung will react to this new pricing model, and it seems that competition in the smartphone market is evolving into a cost-focused process.

To what extent do you think these price increases by Qualcomm will be reflected in the sales prices of the new generation of smartphones that will be released next year? You can share your opinions and thoughts on this topic with us in the comments section.
