Perplexity is releasing its AI tool, called Personal Computer, for the Windows operating system, transforming computers into independent digital assistants.

First launched for Mac devices in April 2026, this tool is now available on the world’s most widely used desktop operating system.

Personal Computer performs many processes directly on the device, such as creating documents or updating spreadsheets on behalf of users, by accessing local documents within the Windows ecosystem.

Full Compatibility with Local Files and Office 365

While traditional chatbots only answer questions, Perplexity Personal Computer stands out as a system that can use the keyboard and mouse on your behalf and switch between applications.

This new version, which goes a step further than the integrations launched for Microsoft 365 applications and Teams last May, runs directly in the Windows desktop environment. Perplexity states that a large portion of corporate work is done in local folders on computers that artificial intelligence cannot access, and that this tool aims to fill this gap precisely.

Now, Windows users can ask artificial intelligence to handle their tasks in Microsoft tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook without needing to copy and paste between windows. For example, when you say, “Edit my meeting notes from last week and save them as a Word document,” the tool scans your local folders, finds the notes, and completes the process in seconds.

The system uses a broad orchestration in the background, including more than 15 AI models such as Claude Opus, GPT, and Gemini, and automatically selects the most suitable model for each task.

In addition, thanks to connectors that can pull information from over 400 well-known applications such as Salesforce, Snowflake, and HubSpot, the entire workflow can be managed from a single point.

Having an AI with such broad permissions running on your computer can raise some security concerns.

However, Perplexity emphasizes that the Personal Computer tool does not use company data in any way to train the AI ​​model. The system cannot access any folders or documents from outside without your permission.

It also requires explicit approval by sending a notification to the user before sensitive processes such as sending emails or deleting valuable documents.

Thanks to administrator controls, detailed activity logs, and a securely protected area (sandbox) architecture, every process can be monitored transparently. Users can instantly stop the assistant’s operation at any time with a kill switch.

Perplexity Personal Computer for Windows is becoming available to Max and Enterprise Max subscribers who pay with prestige. However, the price of having this advanced AI assistant is not cheap.

Subscription levels start at $200 per month and target corporate employees and technology professionals with heavy digital workloads.
