Samsung has started working on Android 17-based One UI 9 for the Galaxy S26 series. All the details about “Tap to Share” and advanced artificial intelligence features that will come with the new version are in our news.
One UI 9 and Android 17 Tests Seen for the First Time
New firmware versions detected on Samsung’s servers confirm that the software development process of the Galaxy S26 series has accelerated. Test builds associated with the S94x model number show that the cornerstones of One UI 9 have been laid. While Google is expected to make Android 16 stable towards the end of this year, Samsung’s preparation for the next big step, Android 17 (One UI 9), exactly coincides with the brand’s “seven-year update promise” vision.
With this new version, Samsung aims for a broad integration that includes not only phones but also other members of the ecosystem. In particular, leaks that Galaxy Book laptops may also be released with the Android-based One UI 9 operating system prove that Samsung is also considering alternatives other than Windows.
What’s New with One UI 9?
Although it is still very early in the development phase, the first information obtained from the test versions signals exciting features. Some notable features expected to come with One UI 9 are listed as follows:
Tap to Share:It allows fast file transfer by bringing two devices closer together using NFC technology. Especially thanks to the antenna placement in the Galaxy S26 series, this operation can be performed even with the top of the phone.
Advanced Bixby Widgets:Samsung’s voice assistant Bixby becomes more accessible with new widgets integrated into the home screen. Quick access buttons are offered for voice command or keyboard input.
Warranty and Maintenance Center:Thanks to a new panel added to the Settings menu, users can manage the warranty status, repair history and diagnostic tools of all Samsung devices from a single center.
Accessibility-Focused Updates:Features such as “Select and Listen”, which speaks the screen elements, and “Text Spotlight” mode, which dynamically increases the text size, are included in the system with One UI 9.
What About the Competitors?
This move by Samsung is a show of strength against its competitors in the smartphone market, Apple and Google. While Apple’s preparations for iOS 19 are being carried out in secrecy, Google is managing the beta process of Android 16 for its Pixel devices. Samsung, on the other hand, is making a much earlier start for One UI 9, as if to make people forget about the delays in One UI 7 and 8. In particular, the ecosystem fluidity offered by Xiaomi with HyperOS and the artificial intelligence integration brought by Oppo with ColorOS forces Samsung to be more aggressive on the software side.
Update Schedule and Expectations
According to the current chart, One UI 8.5 is expected to be released in the last quarter of this year for Galaxy S25 and other compatible models. One UI 9 will debut with the Galaxy S26 series, which will be introduced in early 2026. As always, Samsung plans to launch the beta program in regions such as South Korea, the USA and Germany and then offer it to users globally.
