Google Messages is rolling out a new Chat Themes feature that allows Android users to customize chat windows.
Google is taking a new step towards personalizing the messaging experience for Android users. The Google Messages app has started testing its new Chat Themes feature, which allows users to customize chat windows.
As of June 26, this feature has reached some users of the Google Messages beta version (20260622_01_RC00) via a server-side update. This update, which has not yet rolled out to all testers, replaces the existing color changing options.
Extended personalization options
When the new feature is active, the Change Colors option in the menu within the application is replaced by the term Chat Theme. Users can instantly see the changes they make thanks to the preview section at the top of the screen.
The first option in the Colors section works in harmony with the Dynamic Color palettes at the system level. In addition, there are eight different static color options that users can choose.

For those who want to change their chat backgrounds, Google offers a wide collection of wallpapers. You can choose from categories such as animals, architecture, black and white, city images, nature images, macro shots, space, sunset and textures.
Personal photos and usage details
Google also allows users to upload their own photos as chat backgrounds. This feature is similar to the standard wallpaper options offered by Google.

It is stated that the changes made will only be seen by the user who started the relevant chat. This offers an individual customization experience, unlike the approach in previous versions.
This innovation on Google Messages is a response to the personalization demands that have become standard in messaging applications. The feature is not available on all devices now and is following a phased rollout process.
Users will be able to notice the change in the menu when the feature reaches their device. What do you think about these new individualization options?
